Nursing as the Most Honest Profession

According to the Gallup report, the American public often views nurses as the most trusted profession as they continue to serve the lifeline of the United States healthcare systems. In the recent poll, the nurses took 84% rating of the most trusted professionals in the country (Brenan, 2017). This is a good sign, especially for the patients and the overall nursing practice. This is because nurses are the ones that spend more time with patients, they provide patients with the most important education of the words from the physician into a more understanding language. Also when it comes to an acute care setting, the nurse is responsible for carrying out direct care, orders from the physicians thus provide an interface with the patient at a closer level (Brenan, 2017). These are some of the reasons nurses are rated highly on honesty and ethics than physicians or doctors. As an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, one can use the level of trust in addressing most of the public health deficit in knowledge especially when it comes to self-care the nurse can use the level of trust to educate patients on importance of watching their diet and changing their lifestyle, to prevent health challenges like obesity and diabetes.  The nurse can also use trust in encouraging disease prevention and adherence to medication and treatment. In conclusion, nurses create a great impact on patient wellbeing and health outcomes than other health professionals (Brenan, 2017). They often have time with the patient, unlike the physicians who are mostly interested in the patient diagnosis or the dentist who only look at the issue of removing of refilling the teeth. The nurse will often go the extra mile to empathize with the patient among other factors.
