Integration of Nursing Informatics in Case Management

How Informatics is Used in Case Management

Medical or Health Informatics encompasses the use of computer technologies in the medical field to share, transmit, analyze and store clinical data and knowledge. Accordingly, informatics deals with every applied and basic area in biomedical science as well as current information technologies such as health communication and computing. According to Tietze and McBride (2016), medical informatics deals with the practical and theoretical aspects of data communication and processing based on experience and knowledge derived from processes in health care and medicine. In the case of nursing management, informatics constitutes the main activity of the health care professional. Equally, in various cases, management informatics concentrates on the cognitive, data processing and communication duties of research, education, and medical practice in information science (Houston et al., 2015). Currently, new health care procedures, treatments, medications, and technologies are being created rapidly, and health care professionals are expected to integrate them into their everyday practices (Tietze & McBride, 2016). In essence, informatics helps clinicians to deal with every aspect of promoting and understanding the effective management, analysis, use, and organization of data in health care.

My Primary Area Where I Would Use Informatics

The nursing field would be my primary area where I will use informatics since it will help in integrating nursing science, information science, and computer science in order to communicate and manage data. Informatics will support nurses, patients, consumers, as well as other health care providers in their assessment-making in every setting and role. The support would be attained through the utilization of information technology, information structures, and information processes. Moreover, informatics in nursing would enhance the health of individuals, families, communities, and populations by optimizing data communication and management (Houston et al., 2015). Hence, activities such as designing and use of technology or informatics solutions will improve each area of nursing, for example, the direct access to quality care, creating efficient administrative systems, and supporting medical research.
