Discussion Meaning of NP 

The Nursing standards of practice were developed by the American Nurses Association as a guideline to ensure expected nursing performances (AANP, 2020). In the legal point of view, this refers to the rules of what nurses are required to adhere to practice competency in the work. This means that the nurse needs to work under a lot of caution, attentiveness and prudence; if one fails to meet these standards then they are liable for damages caused by the level of negligence (AANP, 2020). The medical meaning of standards of nursing practice however looks at the level to which the nurse maintains the highest levels of care for patients and following the established procedures (AANP, 2020).  It means that the nurse need to observe all the clinical procedures when attending to a patient, they should follow the national standards in various settings like ambulatory, long-term or acute care facility. The medical standards also looks at ethical view in nursing by respecting issue like patient confidentiality, communication and being culturally competent in various care environments.
